Privacy Policy

SFomo ("this app", at sfomo.ai, also reachable at sfomo.org and calendar.jchong.dev) is a project built and operated by Jonathan Chong. This policy explains what the app is, what data it handles, and how.

What SFomo is, and where it's headed

SFomo (formerly QuickCal) started as a personal tool for finding Bay Area dance, AI, music, exercise and community events. It is growing into a free, open directory of public events across the Bay Area that anyone — or any AI agent — can search and browse, with no account needed. Its only public face is the directory: event listings gathered from public sources, republished as a searchable website, a downloadable data file, and a read-only agent (MCP) endpoint. The operator's own Google Calendar is read by the app but is never displayed on the website or included in the directory.

If the project later adds accounts or lets other people connect their own calendars, this policy will be updated first and any new use of personal data will require your explicit consent.

The public directory

Public listings are collected from event pages and feeds that their organizers have already made public (event platforms, venue and organizer websites, city and park calendars, and public calendar feeds). Each listing keeps only what is needed to find the event: title, date and time, venue/location, price, category tags, and a link back to the original listing, where the details and tickets live. We do not copy full descriptions or images.

The public data is free to use. Please keep the link back to each event's original listing, and be gentle with request volume (see robots.txt). The data is provided as-is, without warranty; always confirm details with the organizer.

Visitors to this website

You don't need an account to use SFomo, and it doesn't ask you for personal information. It sets no cookies of its own, shows no ads, and uses no third-party analytics or tracking scripts. To count visitors, the site's own server records one anonymous entry per visit: a one-way hash of your IP address and browser that changes every day (so it can't be linked across days or turned back into an IP), the site you came from (for example a share link or a referring domain), and whether you were on a phone or a computer. Using the Share button records only which share method was used. The optional feedback box stores the text you write (and an email only if you choose to add one), with no IP address or other identifier; because it's anonymous, I can't reply unless you leave an email. A daily summary of these counts and any feedback is sent to the operator. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes standard technical request data (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. Searches and filters you use run in your own browser against the public data file; they are not sent to us.

Google Calendar data

The operator connects his own Google account to the app using the calendar.readonly scope. The app reads event data (titles, times, locations, descriptions) from calendars visible to that account. It does not request write access and does not create, modify, or delete anything on the calendar.

SFomo's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Google user data is used only for the private archive and the event directory described here. It is not sold, not shared with third parties, not used for advertising, and not used to train AI models.

AI use

Public event listings may be tagged or ranked with the help of automated software, including AI models. The operator may also use AI assistants as personal tools to work on his own calendar, but SFomo does not use Google Calendar data to train any model.

Data retention and deletion

Past public listings are kept in a private archive to study trends and improve coverage. You can revoke the app's access to a Google account at any time on your Google Account permissions page. To request deletion of any data already collected, contact the email below.
